As Fit Kids February continues on NY1, many parents may be looking to set a good example for their kids. As our Stephanie Simon explains, sometimes finding the right "fit" with your workout gear is the first step in getting fit.

Sweatband and body suit was all the rage in the 80's - not an easy look to pull off. These days ,fitness lovers can rock much more innovative designs.

"I think it's important that people wear things that make them feel really good, because when you look good, you're going to perform better," says Nicole Uribarri, instructor at exhale.

Fashion and Fitness expert Christine Bibbo Herr of NYCPretty.com says the trend now is Ath-leisure wear: sporty clothes that look and feel so good you can wear them out before or after the gym.

"Skirt Sports makes this adorable, functional yet fashionable skirt and underneath is a little short with a stay-put elastic, room for your phone. There’s a zipper in the back for money, keys, whatever you need. You definitely want a great bag and LeSportsac makes these light-weight backpacks. They’re wipeable, washable and you can fit everything inside," says Herr.

Another hot trend: arm warmers.

"It keeps your hands warm and then you can run and have that movability with your arm and your tank top and just a little bit of air on your shoulders," says Herr.

Plus, prints and bright colors.

"I’m wearing this from Free Country, it’s a warm down jacket with the base layer in the middle and the arms give you room to move so you can wear this on a run, hiking, biking, walking," says Herr.

For a lower impact workout ThirdLove makes undergarments that are breathable and seemless

And one more reason to look good while working out? For a lot of people. networking has turned into sweat-working.

"We've notice that people are just much more health conscious. So instead of going to dinner, going to cocktail hour, they're coming to class. They're working together, they're sweating together, they're getting all of those happy endorphins going,” says Uribarri.

The trend is not just the styles. It is the lifestyle.
