As the station continues it's "Fit Kids February" series, NY1's Jeanine Ramirez looks at a group that's fit and funky - the Nets Kids dancers - and filed the following report.

Chances are you've never done the Hokey Pokey like this. These are the Brooklyn Nets Kids, the dance team made up of boys and girls ages 6 to 13 who perform at Barclays Center during Nets games.  NY1 was recently invited out to a pre-game rehearsal to see how these kids themselves get pumped in order to pump up the crowd.

"Have a lot of energy and keep your head up," said Mario Braxton, a Brooklyn Nets Kids dancer.

"You have to really feel the music and get into it," said Serena Quadrato, a Brooklyn Nets Kids dancer.

The kids say dancing keeps them in top shape.

"Do a lot of cardio. That actually helps your abs and your muscles and stuff," Quadrato said.

And eating right.

"I eat a lot of fruit. and I like to drink a lot of water," Braxton said.

"Eat vegetables, a lot of vegetables. Stay strong. Eat healthy," Quadrato added.

"We try to make sure that they all have water: At the games, before the games, during rehearsal. All of them bring nice healthy snacks. Some of which they share with me," said Brooklyn Nets Kids Assistant Coach Jordan Ramko.

There are 16 dancers on the team. And not only do they have plenty of rhythm, they also have athletic ability. The coach says preparation for a performance is key.

Every week there's one long practice that lasts three hours. And it's usually on a school night. But these dancers say, it's about giving it your all.

"If you do get tired, you keep trying no matter what," Quadrato said.

They say in the end, any fitness routine will energize you.
