Perhaps the most well-known men’s volleyball player of all time, Karch Kiraly, thinks he’s found a somewhat magical combination. Kids generally like technology.  Kids also like to compete. Combine the two and you may have one of the best recipes available for getting children up and exercising. That is one of the reasons why Kiraly, now coach of the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team, believes in digital fitness devices, like the one he’s helping to promote called VERT. Appropriately for his industry, the $125 device captures all sorts of statistics on your jump.

“I know lots of kids, especially our boys and the boys they played with, would have a great time like comparing jump numbers. ‘Let’s see who can jump higher.’ And so they could have all kids of competitions, which again, would just promote more exercise," says Kiraly.

There are several fitness devices on the market aimed at kids or young adults. One of Kiraly’s current players on the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team agrees; if you can make exercising social - either in person or online - that serves as a great motivator.

“Man, I wish me and my brothers had these things growing up because we competed enough, but this would’ve given us even more bragging rights. I think it would be awesome for any elementary school, junior high team to have these types of devices because, again, it’s another way to compete," says  Christa Harmotto.

Kiraly and Harmotto also say, just like it does for the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team, some of this new fitness technology is a great way for any athlete to help make sure what they’re doing in training is preparing them in the best possible way for game day.
