Designer Zang Toi is known for his opulence and bold and bright colors, but his latest collection deviates from his usual look. NY1's Cheryl Wills filed this report.

It was a night at the opera with designer Zang Toi, and the sounds of an Italian soprano set the tone for collection befitting Lincoln Center.

Leading ladies of the Metropolitan Opera House would most certainly swoon over what Zang Toi calls "The Mystique Beauty of Venice."

"Winter in Venice is more stunningly beautiful, mysterious and sexy so that's why I call it 'The Mystique Beauty of Venice,'" said Toi.

The designer was born in a poor hamlet in Malaysia, but his rags to riches journey makes him the darling of fashion week season after season.

"Coming from no money —not a penny to his name—now he has this empire," said New York City socialite Nicholas Gruber.

"He's adorable, you know, but  he does that grand and big but it's really tasteful and beautifully made," said New York Fashion Week Founder Fern Mallis.

Zang Toi is always about the glam and this collection was no exception."

"It was a wearable collection. It was element of chic and some mystery and beautiful handwork details," said ballet dancer Irina Deorovenko.

For the first time in his more than twenty years in the fashion business, there's no jewel toned colors to be found in The House of Toi. For his fall 2015 collection you'll find bursts of black and a few pops of brown and bronze.

"It was no color but color because with all of the detailing that you saw there and the silhouettes. I mean without color, it was color," said Sofia Davis of Fashion Avenue News.

"I loved all of the pieces, and especially at the end, with the capes and the way they just moved and were flowing," said Miss USA Nia Sanchez.

Wills: "Could you see yourself wearing something like this when you grow up?"

Emma: "I hope I'm really tall so I can join Team Toi."

We'll keep an eye out for little Emma, because there's little doubt that Team Toi will be around for generations to come.
