Two leading ladies in the fashion world draw inspirations from works of art and works of literature for their fall collections. NY1's Cheryl Wills filed the following report.
There's nothing like a live band to set off a Rebecca Minkoff runway show.
The new wave electronic pop group known as Marian Hill set the tone for a electrifying fall 2015 collection that's polished and edgy and inspired by a book that dates back some 40 years.
"This season, I was really inspired by Patti Smith's memoir, 'Just Kids,' and I became obsessed with her and felt like the ultimate luxury in life is to be young, beautiful, free and in love," Minkoff said.
"It was amazing and incredible, just like this wonderful woman here. She blows my mind every year," said actress Zosia Mamet.
If you look closely at the tailoring and the sophisticated styling, youth and beauty are written all over this collection, which is music to the ears of Rebecca Minkoff's faithful fans.
Now that's you've seen the Fall 2015 collection of Rebecca Minkoff, let's check in now with Nicole Miller.
We go "Into the Woods" with Nicole Miller for a line that's inspired by mythology. Think tales from the dark side, with a focus on deep, earthy colors, influenced by mythic arts, with a touch of bling here and there.
"I didn't want it to be like fairy tale, so it's not sort of a fairy tale thing. It was a much deeper, darker take on the woods," Miller said.
A word about the hair: simple ponytails have rarely looked so elegant. It's the work of legendary hairstylist Edward Tricome of Warren Tricome salons.
"Actually, it's not so easy because it's very hard to do very simple hair, to get that feeling of like, you didn't touch it," Tricome said.
If you've been following Nicole Miller's career since she opened her first shop on Madison Ave in the mid-1980s, you know she's not one for a conservative look. Nicole Miller is all about the downtown vibe, and this season she blends SoHo with NoHo, and the collection is oh so flattering.
