Fresh from Bikini Bottom and a critically acclaimed run in Chicago, SpongeBob SquarePants is trading in sand for New York City lights, bringing his gang of underwater misfits to the Great White Way for SpongeBob: A Broadway Musical for Everyone.

Best friend Patrick, neighbor Squidward, and even karate loving Sandy the Squirrel will take the stage at the Palace Theatre, first with preview performances in November. The show opens officially in December.

Actor Ethan Slater will take on the title role of the silly, dapper dressed sea sponge, man child, fry cook with a pet snail named Gary.

The Nickelodeon favorite has been entertaining kids and adults since 1999.

The musical includes songs by They Might Be Giants, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, and many more.

Tickets for "SpongeBob" on Broadway, go on sale June 26.
