American actress Dina Merrill has died.

A family spokeswoman says she passed away yesterday, but the cause of death has not been released.

The New York native was born into a wealthy lifestyle as the daughter of cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post.

Merrill defied her parent's wishes by becoming an actress.

She earned her first gig on the big screen at the age of 30 in the comedy "The Desk Set."

Merrill later starred in "Operation Petticoat," "The Sundowners," and the satire "The Player."

She's best known for portraying stylish wives or "the other woman".

Merrill also made a name for herself by appearing as a guest star on multiple television series.

Dina Merrill was 93 years old.
