It's Hollywood's biggest night as the 89th Academy Awards will take place later tonight in Los Angeles.

The romantic musical "La La Land" is up for a record-tying 14 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.

Other contenders in that category  include "Moonlight," "Manchester by the Sea,"  "Arrival"  and "Fences," "Lion,'' "Hidden Figures,''  "Hell or High Water,'' and "Hacksaw Ridge."

The nominees for Best Actor are Casey Affleck, Andrew Garfield, Ryan Gosling, Viggo Mortensen, and Denzel Washington.

For Best Actress, it is a race between Natalie Portman in "Jackie," Emma Stone in "La La Land," Isabelle Huppert in "Elle," Meryl Streep in "Florence Foster Jenkins" and Ruth Negga in "Loving."

The Oscars sparked protests last year after no actors of color were nominated.

This year seven of the 20 acting nominees are from ethnic-minority backgrounds.

Late night host Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the Oscars for the first time.

The show gets underway at 8:30.
