Sharon Jones, the Brooklyn-raised lead singer of the soul group Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, has died.
The website for her band announced on Friday that the singer died after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
A message was also posted to her Twitter account.

According to the website, Jones was initially diagnosed with cancer in 2013, but she was able to return to the stage a year later.
She received a Grammy nomination in 2014 for her album Give the People What They Want.
NY1's Sound Advice reporter Eric Holland interviewed Jones in August about a documentary on her battle with cancer.
She also performed with the Dap-Kings at Celebrate Brooklyn in Prospect Park this past summer and appeared in the Harlem-based Netflix series "Marvel's Luke Cage."
Fellow singer Chaka Khan paid tribute to Jones on Twitter, calling her "the real deal in this industry."

Sharon Jones was 60 years old.
