"Star Trek" fans here in the city are mourning the loss of Mr. Spock.

Leonard Nimoy's son says he passed away Friday morning after a battle with pulmonary disease.

The 83-year-old was most famous for his roll as the half human, half vulcan crew member aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise.

He also spent some time behind the camera, directing "Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock."

He also played Dr. David Kibner in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" as well as providing his voice to the character Galvatron in "Transformers: The Movie".

Nimoy's credits even included several brief stints on Broadway, where he appeared in productions of "Full Circle" and "Equus" in the 1970s, and directed the comedy "The Apple Doesn't Fall..." in 1996.

The Upper West Side's Thalia Theater was renamed the Leonard Nimoy Thalia in 2002 after the actor donated funds for the theater's renovation.
