Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams wants to make school lunches safer for children.

He and City Council member Fernando Cabrera submitted a proposal that would ban processed meats from the city's public schools.

The resolution comes after a 2015 World Health Organization report found that processed meats, and the carcinogens found in them, could lead to long-term health problems.

In a statement, Adams said, "Chicken nuggets and sloppy joes are in the same class of substances as cigarettes. We know that we would never give our children cigarettes to smoke, so there’s absolutely no reason why we should continue poisoning our children’s health with processed foods."
