Four city Catholic schools will soon be closing.

The Archdiocese of New York says three schools in the Bronx — Saint Mary, Saint Ann, and Visitation School — and St. Gregory the Great in Manhattan will shut their doors at the end of the school year.

This comes after a 2013 merger between the schools' parishes and nearby churches, meant to consolidate and strengthen the Catholic school system.

The Archdiocese says Saints Peter and Paul School in the Bronx will also transition from kindergarten through 8th grade to a universal pre-K school starting in September.

The Federation of Catholic Teachers released a statement saying it wasn't given any warning about the closures.

It says more than 70 teachers will be left without a school.
