The Department of Education says city public schools are open to all students regardless of their immigration status.

In a statement, the agency says it wants to protect each child's right to learn in light of President Trump's controversial executive order.

The DOE says staff will not ask students about their immigration status, and the agency will not let customs enforcement officers into their facilities unless it is legally necessary.

Several city college students have already been barred from coming back to the United States leading to multiple protests.
