A group of middle school students are following in the footsteps of legendary city planner Robert Moses.
Teams of students from all over the city flexed their design skills in a competition showcasing tabletop models for future cities.
This year's theme was "The Power of Public Space."
The event was hosted by the non-profit "Discover-E" at PS-126 in Lower Manhattan.
The organization works to show kids how math and science influence everyday life, and to get students excited about design.
"Designing a city is like designing new life, bringing new life, new concepts and I wanted to be a part of that," said one student.
"Kids are the future and kids have really spectacular ideas and I wanted to show them that kids can do anything," said another.
The winning team gets to go an all-expense paid trip to the national Future City Competition in Washington next month.
