More city high school kids are taking the SAT exam, and scores remain steady.

The Education Department says in the last school year, there was a more than 4 percent uptick in the number of high school juniors who took the four-hour test. Officials say that's due in part to the department moving the SAT to a regular school day and offering it for free to juniors.

Scores on the reading and writing portions remained about the same, but math scores dipped by about one point.

Seniors taking the exam are also up slightly.

A new version of the SAT was introduced back in March. Results of that version have not yet been released.
