Grade school students put a real life spin on a well-known children's story.
The Eagle Academy for Young Men staged a performance of "The Lyin King" — that's L-Y-I-N — at the Schomburg Center Saturday night.
Students have been rehearsing the production for two months.
The play takes the story of "The Lion King" and re-constructs it as an examination of young men and their personal lives.
"It's about this kid who's actually struggling in life, who tries to cover it up by lying, but it doesn't really work out for him, but towards the end he learns a lesson, you know it's not good to lie basically, it's more important to be truthful to yourself rather than be somebody that you're not," said student Quentin Hunter.
The performance raised money for the school's theater program.
