BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- It was a weekend filled with tumbling, turns and tucks for gymnasts competing in Binghamton.

The Parents' Gymnastics Association of the Southern Tier hosted its annual New York Cup Invitational.

More than 500 athletes from across the country participated in the two-day event. They also had the opportunity to qualify for states.

The program director says the gymnasts practice for years to reach this level. And his favorite part is seeing the community support.

"Bringing gymnasts together and having fun in a safe environment," said Albert Drozdowski, the Southern Tier Gymnastics program director. "Again, Binghamton is a great city and I don't think you get enough tourists in the area and it's just one way to draw people into our area."

The New York Cup is one of the largest gymnastics competitions in the state.
