With just about a week to go before Election Day,Dan Donovan took the day off from the campaign trail.

Monday was the sixth anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, which devastated a huge swath of the district. So Donovan's campaign said no politics. Instead, he delivered a sober message on Facebook.

"On this solemn anniversary, know that I am one of you and will continue my push for relief measures for my community."

Max Rose, his Democratic opponent, took a different approach.

"Dan Donovan is pulling a stunt. If you notice, that video he pulled out this morning used his campaign slogan," Rose said. "We are acting very civilly today, presenting some clear and important questions about Dan Donovan's voting record, and I look forward to hearing his answers about that"

Rose gathered a group of his supporters in front of borough hall to slam the congressman, claiming Donovan's in the pocket of the pharmaceutical industry. It's been a frequent topic for the Rose campaign.

On Monday, Rose highlighted a procedural in Congress four months ago, saying Donovan sided with the big drug companies.

"I'll let the voters decide why Donovan did that," Rose said. "It's possible he did it because he was falling in line with the Republican Party. It's possible he did it to please his donors. its possible he did it for another reason. We will let him answer that."

Donovan's campaign dismissed the allegation.

A spokesperson said, "It's bad enough Max Rose is continuing to peddle his nasty, deceitful campaign but to do so on the anniversary of Hurricane Sandy is particularly unconscionable. If he had lived here, he would understand this is a solemn day of reflection on the devastation and lives that were lost. This tells you everything you need to know about how out-of-touch Max Rose is with our community."

Over the weekend, this race saw its first poll. It showed Max Rose was actually within striking distance of Dan Donovan. The Siena College/New York Times poll had Donovan just four points ahead, within the margin of error.
