Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and challenger Chele Farley have agreed to a debate co-sponsored by NY1 in upstate New York later this month.

Believed to have national political ambitions, Gillibrand, a Democrat,  will debate Farley, a Republican investment banker, on Sunday, October 21 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs.

Filling a vacancy made by Hillary Clinton, Gillibrand was appointed to the Senate in 2009 and then won elections in 2010 and 2012.

Farley has previously served as the fundraising chair for the state Republican Party.

Co-moderated by NY1 political anchor Errol Louis, the hour-long debate will be shown live on NY1 at 7 p.m. on October 21.
