City leaders are slamming Congress for a budget proposal that only covers a fraction of Donald Trump's security costs.

Earlier in the week, Mayor Bill de Blasio sent letters to President Obama and Congress asking for $35 million to reimburse the NYPD's security costs from Election Day through Inauguration Day.

Congress has proposed covering $7 million, just 20 percent of the bill.

The mayor says the costs for round-the-clock protection at Trump Tower are unprecedented, and New Yorkers should not be shouldered with the expense.

The city is also urging the federal government to come up with a long-term payment plan. Melania Trump and her son Barron will stay in Trump Tower at least through the end of the school year.
