A candlelight vigil was held in Manhattan Sunday night as part of a last-ditch effort to sway the Electoral College. NY1's Lyndsay Christian filed the following report.

A group of bipartisan New Yorkers urged the Electoral College to vote against Donald Trump becoming the next president.

"We're not saying you have to vote for Hillary. It's fine if it's a Republican," said protester Marge Climen.

Climen was among those who gathered in Union Square for a peaceful Stop Trump candlelight vigil and protest.

"We want someone who's fit to serve, and who's going to be, who can be trusted with the nuclear codes and foreign affairs," Climen said.

Foreign affairs, including the news of Russia's alleged interference in the presidential election, are among many concerns protesters say diminish their confidence in Trump leading the country.

"This man is a demagogue. He's a fascist. We're afraid of him," said one protester. "They should take us seriously."

"It's a scary thing that's happened, with the rise in hate crimes, the threats of a Muslim registry, the appointments that are coming through," said another. "This is not what America stands for."

Trump lost the popular vote but is projected to win the most electoral votes, an outcome, protesters say, the Electoral College has the power to change.

"We're asking to send this vote to the House and that we'll take anyone who's reasonable," said one protester.

Organizers say there will be a protest at each state capital Monday, including one in Albany.
