Through all three presidential debates, students at the City University of New York gathered to watch them in lively town hall meetings that were hosted by NY1's Ruschell Boone. After seeing the candidates square off for nearly five hours with the students, Ruschell filed the following report.
The third time was a charm. For debate watchers, the final faceoff between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton was the best debate of the presidential campaign season.
"This is the first debate that I could actually see Trump with specific beliefs that he has as well as Hillary," said one debate watcher.
"The debate has been so informative, because we are finally listening about the issues and the content regarding the future of this nation," said another.
But while they were happy to hear more about the issues and less mud-slinging, some at this NY1-sponsored debate forum at CUNY, they are still undecided after watching all three matchups with us.
"I still feel that I need to contemplate who is going to be the most fit for president in terms of the different issues that were touched upon," said one person at the forum. "I believe that Hillary was much more specific than in the past two debates, and Trump was much calmer."
Most already made up their minds, but they all agreed that both candidates scored some good punches.
"I think Hillary did well," said one debate watcher. "She did something today that I haven't seen her do in the past two debates. She, like, towards the end, she spoke with real conviction, like almost angry, like the gloves came off."
"When Donald Trump talks about economics, that's when he's at his best," said another. "I personally disagree with, you know, his tax plans, things like that, but for people I know who are his supporters and for where his expertise comes in the most, I think economics is where he's the most comfortable and where he comes across the most likable."
But perhaps the biggest winner was the moderator, who got the highest score of the night from these students.
Debate watcher: I hope whoever wins the presidency will lead the country as great as Chris Wallace leads this debate.
Boone: He was the best?
Debate watcher: Yes, he was the best, and candidates show their strong personalities, and I was looking for that.
The big question now is what the other voters will say come Election Day.
