The New York Times endorses Hillary Clinton for President.

In an editorial published online today, the Times aired its support behind the Democratic candidate.

The Times says Clinton is uniquely qualified to face the domestic and international challenges faced by the country.

The paper highlighted her public service record as first lady, a New York senator and Secretary of State.

The Times said: "Our endorsement is rooted in respect for her intellect, experience, toughness and courage over a career of almost continuous public service, often as the first or only woman in the arena."

Meanwhile, Trump picked up an endorsement from a former primary rival, Texas Senator Ted Cruz yesterday, who failed to endorse him at the RNC over the summer.

Cruz said he is honoring a pledge he made in primary season to support the eventual Republican nominee, adding that a Clinton presidency would be "devastating" for the country.

The Trump campaign is in Virginia today.
