The city has reached a record settlement for the death of a Rikers Island inmate.

The Legal Aid Society says the city is paying $5.75 million over the death of Bradley Ballard in 2013.

Officials say the 39-year-old died after being locked in his cell for seven straight days by correction guards.

Officials say he was left without medication or treatment for his diabetes and schizophrenia.

His death was ruled a homicide.

The city called it a fair settlement for a tragic case.
