ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Nine people are out of their home Tuesday morning after their Norton Street basement caught fire.

It happened around 10 p.m. Monday, near Hollenbeck Street.

Firefighters were able to pull a dog from the home, but it died of smoke inhalation. 

All people escaped safely.

Firefighters say the home has significant damage. 

The Red Cross is helping two adults and seven kids with temporary shelter.
