ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Robert and Mary Ross were officially identified by the medical examiner, one day after two bodies and a vehicle were pulled from the Genesee River. The search for the missing Perinton couple began one week earlier.

Robert and Mary, both in their 70s, were last seen in late January. Their last known phone call from either of them was determined to have been made from Charlotte, which is where search efforts over several days were focused.

On Wednesday, SCUBA teams discovered a vehicle in the water near where the Genesee River and Lake Ontario meet. Descriptions of the vehicle matched those of the Kia Sorrento driven by Robert and Mary Ross.

Robert’s son says that his father was recently diagnosed with stage four brain cancer.
