ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The number two man in the sheriff's Office will also leave at the end of the year.

Undersheriff Drew Forsythe has been with the office for 26 years. Forstyhe recently received a Purple Heart medal for his service.

He was shot and wounded in the line of duty back in 1996. The shooting remains fresh in his mind.

"It kind of changes your perspective on the job and how much you really appreciate that it takes a special person to wear a uniform," Forsythe said. "This job isn't for everyone so when I talk to the families about their loved ones in the academy, it really, I try to hone in on that their loved ones are really a special individual and they should be awful proud of them."

Forsythe says he still wants to make an impact in the community and is pursuing other opportunities to do so.
