VICTOR, N.Y. — The estranged wife of the owner of The Apple Farm in Victor is accused of starting the fire which burned the retail store along Route 444 to the ground.

Karen Bahai, 57 of Greece, is charged with felony third-degree arson. Bahai worked there along with her then-husband, Munir Bahai.

Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero says the investigation into the November 2016 took more than a year because much of the evidence was burned in the fire, but he says the public should be relieved that there is not an arsonist at large. Povero says the public should be relieved.

“I think by clarifying this and identifying to the public of the responsibility of the person and their connection with the fire, hopefully the community is at least – at least if there was any fear of a random arsonist out there – that that’s been eliminated," Povero said.

Bahai is held on bail at the Ontario County Jail.

The District Attorney's Office is currently reviewing the evidence and working toward presenting it to a grand jury.
