A SUNY Oneonta student has been arrested in connection with an off-campus stabbing.

It happened late Friday night in an apartment on Maple Street. The victim was sitting on the couch, bleeding profusely, when police arrived. The victim was treated and released for serious stab wounds to the face, neck, shoulder and arms.

Police say 20-year-old Julian VanCourt-Wels told them he used a kitchen knife to stab the victim. VanCourt-Wels is charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, all in the first degree. He's being held in the Otsego County jail without bail.

VanCourt-Wels, from Schenectady, is a junior studying biology.

The college released a statement saying any student who's been charged with a crime will be referred to the College Judicial System.
