ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The father who pleaded guilty to his role in the death of his 3-year-old daughter received the maximum sentence Wednesday morning.

Michael Stagles was sentenced to one and a third years to four years in prison for his guilty plea to criminally negligent homicide in the death of Brook Stagles. The judge recommended four years. He'll be eligible for parole after he serves one and a third years.

Stagles admitted to waiting to take Brook to the hospital because he feared the consequences after the child was punched repeatedly by his girlfriend, Erica Bell.

Those punches ruptured her intestines and she later died.

Bell was convicted of murder and manslaughter and was sentenced to 25-years to life in prison

"It's the final chapter in court. It's certainly not the final chapter for the family suffering or the community suffering for the little girl who was lost here," said Assistant District Attorney Sara Van Strydonck.
