ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The death of a two-year-old at The Hamilton apartments on Mount Hope Avenue is under investigation by the Rochester Police Department's Major Crimes Unit.

Police say they responded to a call for a child not breathing around 8:30 a.m. Friday. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Neighbors familiar with the victim’s family say they are sad to hear about the heartbreak in their building.

“The security, they’re doing a good, great job," said Basima Ali Alzabeidi of Rochester. "We have new camera, we have everything. They’re doing they’re best, but it’s so sad and scary for the grandmother, because she’s so nice lady. You don’t expect that could happen to her.”

Eric Ross is a father of four children under the age of five. He says the incident makes him hold his children closer.

“It changes how you watch over them," said Ross, of Rochester. "It changes who you trust around them, who you want to watch your child, who you’re comfortable with your child being with – family, friends, day care. You have to second-guess everybody nowadays.”
