Lifelong New Yorker Donald Trump will take the stage tonight at the Republican National Convention to formally accept the GOP's nomination for president.  Tonight's theme is "Make America One Again."  Speakers will talk about "America’s serious challenges at home and the threats we face abroad" while promoting Trump as a leader who "will focus on what unites us, not what divides us."

Donald Trump will also be trying to unite his party.  Last night, Senator Ted Cruz was booed by hundreds of delegates towards the end of his speech when it became apparent he wasn't going to endorse his former rival from the campaign trail.  An unapologetic Cruz said today, "What I wanted to do last night was lay out the principles I believe we should stand for as Republicans."

What do you say?  What do you hope to hear from Donald Trump tonight?  What have been the high and low points of this Republican National Convention?  Are you praising or criticizing Senator Cruz for refusing to endorse Trump last night?  If you are still an undecided voter, did this RNC sway you one way or the other?

Kimberly’s Thoughts

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us tonight. Many of you suggested that you hope to hear exactly what Trump plans to do to “make America great again.” Others say you already trust that he will do just that. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell meanwhile, says Trump needs to convey a biography worthy of the presidency. We will soon find out if he does just that. Your thoughts posted below.

I would ask how anyone, in the news media or anywhere else -- and most of all, Mr. Trump -- could ever think that Senator Cruz (with whom I have a thousand points of disagreement) could ever endorse him, after Mr. Trump accused the senator's father of being part of the plot to assassinate President Kennedy?

Whatever one thinks of Senator Cruz's politics or his sense of decorum or propriety, this was one of Mr. Trump's sins coming back to bite him on the a--, and it's about time that there was some payback for the boorish, crude, and sometimes bizarre behavior in which he has engaged.

Speaking for myself, I'm a little divorced from all of these goings on -- I was a Republican for many years, until Mr. Gingrich and that House majority of 1995 made it impossible to continue that allegiance, and Mr. Trump has made it even more difficult to even admit that past allegiance -- so to me, this is a lot like an American hearing about dissent and disharmony within the German government in 1942; and I say let them savage each other.

But Mr. Cruz was acting as any reasonable person, having been confronted with Mr. Trump's antics, should have reacted, given the chance (and Mr. Trump gave him that chance -- the Senator didn't exactly have to crash the party to get in).  And Mr. Trump might consider himself lucky in one respect -- for saying something like what he said about the Senator's father, if this were the time of the nation's founders (with whom the Republican Party seems obsessed), such a statement might have ended up on what they used to call the field-of-honor (Ref.: see Hamilton).

Should  Donald Trump win the presidency  this November, one of the important foreign policy items that he needs to  work on is continuing this country's relationship with NATO. With Vladimir Putin flexing  his military muscles , it would be most prudent to maintain strong  multilateral relations with NATO. Each of the 27 other members need to contribute more dollars to the NATO budget-much more than they are contributing now.A Trump administration would need to stress that those countries must pay their fair share of  military expenses ,since our country has been  contributing much more .Our foreign policy needs to be somewhat revised, but nor completely changed. In response t for many years.  With countries such as Russia and China building up their military strength,Donald Trump would most likely begin to buildup our nation's military strength also. The U. S. needs to project to the rest of the world that it a peaceful nation, but that if its interests are threatened by another nation, we will not hesitate to react swiftly and strongly  to defend our nation. From, John, Fresh Meadows

Lying Cruz is an idiot and scuzzball, that's all I can say on T.V. I can't use the words I want to use because I respect your show.... I can't wait to vote for President Trump and V.P. Pence, I know they will make America great and safe again.... I want President Trump to tell us about the decision that they have made about building the wall... America needs to be protected... The Border Patrols need to be strengthened, people have to come here the legal way.The illegals and refugees can't come here without being vetted... I'm glad he's going to create more jobs, people have to work to support their families... This country will be great and safe again, God bless America, and God bless the Trump Family...Herman, Upper West Side

I think it is time for change. He have been in turmoil the last eight years and Clinton is part of that downward spiral. We must change direction and put someone in office who can stand on their own two feet and tell the lobbyists, other countries, and anarchists, I want the people's voice heard.
I vote Republican because I'm concerned about millions of babies being aborted and yet we keep all death row inmates alive and comfy.

I would like Trump to specify his economic plans, his national security plans, how he will prevent our Constitution from being ignored by elected officials, and what will he do to make certain that no federal govt official is above the law.

I don't expect to hear anything New from Trump.  Who and what he is has already been revealed, there is nothing more to add.  As for Cruz, I feel he had the right to stand up for what he believed and say what was in his heart.  If Freedom of Speech is good for everyone else it is certainly good for Senator Ted Cruz.  I definitely can respect that.

Here's a theory: the military industrial complex is the force behind Donald Trump. It needs a new nuclear sub fleet, a new strategic bomber, and a fix for an all purpose fighter. 200 billion here, a trillion there, pretty soon you're talking real money. So they need someone to push it all through. Enter Donald Trump. Knows nothing. But can sell anything. The perfect military industrial puppet.

I would like Trump to tell us 1-If he gives a tax break to businesses how will he make these businesses not pay dividends and put money in everyone's pocket but reinvest the money and create more jobs

2- when he puts higher taxes on the imported goods this will be payed by the consumer. The jobs from the outside the country are not desired from Americans.

What is Trump going to do when he gets heckled tonight? Is he going to quote himself and yell "Get him out of here! Throw the bumb out,"

He may defend the right to bear arms, but what about the 1st ammendment?  Is he going to tell us he wants to hit the guy in the face? They have already thrown out someone tonight for raising his voice. The man believes in his freedom of speech,  but noone else's. I hope to hear him say thank you for everyone's support, but I am not going to accept the nomination and am going home. I dislike senator Cruz, but I am pleased with his standing his ground especially after Trump bullied him and attacked Mrs. Cruz and Cruz, the father, specifically and directlry. Trump's words have consequences and he needs to take responsibility.

This is insane , Trump is a racist , a con man. Sorry my fellow Americans if you vote for this idiot and racist , it reflects who you are too. The Republican party I knew grew up with and respected has died.

I want to hear why his business practices are so corrupt? Why doesn't he speak about his Dubai Trump Golf course where the subcontractor of his project enticed international workers from counties like Indonesia; India, Pakistan, and the Philippines and are now slaves stuck in Dubai having been stripped of their passports and given half the promised wages? Trumps response has only been that he has no responsibility for his subcontractors.

This presidential champagne has been a joke and we are going to hell in a breadbasket if Trump wins. I guess, any "Joe Blow" can run the country, no need for political experience only a big mouth. "We are surely in for a big surprise"

I just heard you say it's nice to hear "thanks". My husband and I always say you are the most patient man on television. Thank you on behalf of all the reasonable New Yorkers out there who feel for you. It's a tough job hosting The Call, but you do it with aplomb. We're moving from Queens to Peekskill on Monday, and we'll miss NY1 most of all!
