Six men have been arrested for allegedly selling 74 weapons to undercover detectives in the East Harlem neighborhood where Officer Randolph Holder was fatally shot last week.  Mayor de Blasio, Police Commissioner Bratton, and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance announced the indictment, which states the defendants sold the guns and ammunition to detectives from January 2014 to August 2015.  Police are also on the lookout for whoever fired the shots that killed a teenage boy in Brooklyn yesterday.  It happened around six in the evening outside a store on the busy intersection of DeKalb and Flatbush Avenues.  News of the shooting and gun bust come as family, friends and fellow officers are gathering in Queens for the wake of Officer Holder.  The five-year veteran's funeral is tomorrow.  How concerned are you about the threat of illegal guns in New York City?  What's your reaction to undercover police buying 74 weapons in East Harlem over the course of 20 months?  Are you surprised to learn of the shooting in Fort Greene, Brooklyn yesterday?  How will you remember Police Officer Randolph Holder?

Schiumo's Thoughts

More outrage.  More talk.  But New Yorkers want action.  It's been this way for decades.

Your Thoughts

Inspect buses that carry guns into NYC. Police should follow buses from Virginia.

I am not at all surprised in the level of gun violence that has recently taken place & the cruel murder of this fine officer. Lately our city has forgotten who the real enemies are. If the bleeding hearts of New York City doesn't get a clue real real soon, our city may soon be without these two vital forces.

I believe there should be tougher sentences for those who possess illegal guns. Getting a slap on the wrist means nothing to the individuals committing crimes. I also think that more people need to speak up when it comes to their community, if you see something ,say something and don't be afraid. I think most are scared of having someone find out they told.

THERE IS NO EVIDENCE,NONE THAT COULD BE SUPPORTED BY NATIONAL STATISTICAL DATA,THAT SUPPORTS GOVERNOR CUOMO'S HYSTERICAL ASSERTION THAT IT IS "FAIR GAME" ON POLICE OFFICERS. THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH FOR NY~1 viewers IS THAT FELONY CRIMES IN EVERY CATEGORY HAVE BEEN DECLINING FOR AT LEAST (4)DECADES. FEWER GUN CRIMES,FEWER PEOPLE STOPPED WITH GUNS,FEWER GUN~RELATED HOMICIDES,etc, etc, etc. AND YES,POLICE WORK IS LESS DANGEROUS THAN APPROXIMATELY NINETEEN OTHER PROFESSIONS ACCORDING TO NATIONALLY AGGREGATED STATISTICS OF THE FBI AND OTHER AGENCIES. MOST PEOPLE WHO JOIN GIGANTIC,UNAFFORDABLE~TO~TAX PAYERS~AGENCIES LIKE THE NYPD IS FOR THE JUICY BENEFITS AND THAT HEAD~SCRATCHING PENSION. POLICE IN ANY OF THE (50) STATES ARE MORE LIKELY TO DIE FROM SUICIDE OR AN ACCIDENT THAN TO BE SHOT BY A SO~CALLED GUN CARRYING DRUG DEPENDENT MEMBER OF THE "BLOODS."

Gun raid seems circumspect. Another photo op for DA and Mayor.  Gun buyback in East Harlem  & an earlier raid might have saved Holder's life.

shooting in fort greene is not surprising, shootings are up since deblasio, council speaker, public advocate and a federal judge. have all but banned stop and frisk. so the perps now carry more guns and commit more crimes. and the p.d. commissioner is always quoting statistics from years ago, saying crime is down.

Is not the legal gunowners that cause the problems, they make the Laws tougher for them but the guns of being brought on the street , you tell us you can only have seven pallets and you're gun , but the criminals don't follow that law do they

if the Feds don't act soon, New York State should take drastic measures, and set up road blocks on all inter-state crossings and do random searches for illegal guns.   The outcry from our neighbor states will hopefully send the right message to Congress.

My heart goes to the family of Officer Holder. I attend LIU Brooklyn Campus (studying for a Masters in Social Work) and was dismissed from class 20 minutes later last night. Upon leaving the campus I observed the Police and ambulance attending to the two teens who had been shot 20 minutes earlier. If my professor had dismissed us on scheduled I and my classmates would have been dead center where the gun fire took place.  It's unfortunate these young people had access to these weapons and choose to do what they did.  Congress needs to act and take complete control and rid our city of these illegal weapons.  Thank you for your time.  Great show as always.

I said it, 5 days ago, our elected officials get on tv and scream NRA this and NRA that, and behold, there they are. They never let me down. This whole blame the NRA show has been going on since 1911 and it's played out. NY needs to get it's sugar honey iced tea together and go after REAL criminals and leave law abiding gun owners alone.  Get the jelly out your spine! You can "star 69" Hakeem back and tell him I said it. You KNOW who's doing the shooting. Let's see you all WORK for a change...or more grief will descend.

I am very concerned about the threat of illegal guns in New York City unfortunately it will get worse before it gets better. My reaction to undercover police buying 74 weapons in East Harlem over the course of 20 months, I tend to believe that they are the ones furnishing it since they have access to guns that are retrieved from busts. I am not surprised to learn of the shooting in Fort Greene, yesterday but sad that my home town is getting like the Ok Corral, these lowlives who carry and use the guns have no respect for life, society.  Let's see what real are like! Instead of these wannabees tough guys going to jail they should be sent to afghanistan, syria or some 3rd world country to fight our wars and if they survive then there sentence has been served.

From January 2014 until August 2015 NYPD and DA were watching the sale of guns. What does this tell you?  It tells you that Law enforcement does not bother with small busts they wait until it is big enough to glorify them. Same goes for car theft rings, drug rings, and gun rings.

The gun problem is a concern but there are may laws on the books that are not being used.  The suggestions by the law makers seem to always want to ad more laws to the law abiding gun owners.  What has happened is from the beginning and I have to take it all the way back to the Koch administration.  No one ever caught carrying/holding has ever served time at all.  The Bronx has had so many gun busts time and time again and yet according to the Brooklyn DA last evening he said that undercover law enforcement did break a up a ring that seem to be coming from a few southern states being Georgia and the Carolinas.

I didn't know Officer Holder but I know he was a good officer that was killed while on the job by a thug. The undercover officers need to hit the streets everyday so they can get more guns off the streets, to many people are getting killed for no reason. Commissioner Bratton and the Mayor  should set up a task force to go out and talk to these gang members and talk them into doing something positive with their lives like going back to school.
