Met Summer HD Festival at Lincoln Center
The Metropolitan Opera’s Summer HD Festival returns with free outdoor screenings of great Met performances on the plaza at Lincoln Center. It kicks off Friday night with something a little bit different, a special screening of the 1985 film "Amadeus,” co-presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center. The Festival runs through September 5th.
2nd Annual Canto De Las Americas
For more opera, check out the second annual “Canto De Las Americas”, a vocal workshop for aspiring singers. It's open to the public and takes place now through the 31st the Belle Arti Center For The Arts in Forest Hills.
The Brooklyn Shakespeare Festival
The Brooklyn Shakespeare Festival takes place this Saturday with Julius Caesar at Owls Head Park in Bay Ridge, at 12pm, 3pm and 6pm. Admission is free
Rite of Summer Music Festival on Governors Island
The Rite of Summer Music Festival continues Saturday afternoon on Governors Island. More 70 percussionists will perform the Inuksuit by John Luther Adams. Admission is free.
Old Stone House: Witness to War
At The Old Stone House at Washington Park in Park Slope, see the new exhibit "Witness to War." It explores the Battle of Brooklyn plus life in Brooklyn during the Revolution. There are also great events all weekend long for the anniversary of the battle.
Showplace Antique + Design Center
If you're looking for a cool place to shop for art, antiques, vintage clothing, jewelry and beyond, check out the Showplace Antique Center on West 25th Street for 4 floors of one-of-a-kind finds.
Charlie Parker Birthday Celebration
August 30 to September 3 at Birdland, it's the Charlie Parker Birthday Celebration Featuring Vincent Herring, Greg Osby, Eric Alexander, Helen Sung, Lonnie Plaxico, Billy Drummond and Sheila Jordan. All tickets are $40, $10 food/drink minimum.
