Spectrum News highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment "App Wrap."

USPS AR

Even the Post Office, which once delivered packages on horseback, is getting into the tech spirit this holiday season. USPS AR is an app that allows you to send and/or receive an augmented reality message with a Priority Mail box. All you do is point the camera over that "Tracked and Insured" shield and then launch your message.

There are a couple messages to choose from. Once you have viewed it, you can take a snapshot or short video with the virtual greeting and send it back to the box’s sender to show you received it and to say a quick thanks. USPS AR is a free app for iOS and Android devices.

1600

And the White House is also getting in on the AR fun this holiday season with an AR card in time for the holidays, though it’s not just a holiday-themed card. 1600, created by the White House Historical Association, lets you point your phone at a one-dollar bill then up from the bill sprouts a virtual White House complete with a bit of history and showing you a few different themes and seasons. You can also move your phone around the bill to get different angles of the White House. 1600 is also a free app out on iOS and Android devices.
