Season Ticket Holders Protest Seat License Fee
Jets fan Stan Jaeger said he will have to pay $200,000 to keep his four 50-yard-line season tickets in the new Meadowland Stadium.
He is one of the season ticket holders who showed up to support the PSL Rally – protesting the new personal seat license fee being instituted by the New York Jets and Giants.
"We're going to lose our tickets and they've been in my husband's family for more than 33 years," said Jets fan Gina Levy.
"Our seats are probably going to be $5,000 a seat. I own two of them," said Jets season ticket holder Aaron Smith. "Ten thousand dollars is out of our range."
A personal seat license is usually a one-time charge for the right to purchase season tickets for a certain seat in a stadium.
The Jets say they're planning to announce their plan before the game season. But the Giants have already released their PSL fees, ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 per seat.
The move leaves many fans out in the cold.
"It hurts," said Giants fan Dawn Smith. "We wanted to bring our kids someday and show them the experience and we're not going to be able to."
The rally was organized by Steve Kern, who started the website
PSLRally.com. And although the event was not well attended, Kern said he will not let that stop him from getting the fans voices heard.
"The turn out is not what I expected so it's a little disappointing, but I'm still going to move forward," said Kern.
The Giants declined to comment. But the Jets released a statement earlier this week stating, "Throughout this process, we've encouraged our fans to voice their opinions on the new stadium - whether through surveys or in this case, a rally. Our fans' concerns are being taken into account as we develop our PSL plan."
Kern said he plans to keep the website up until the beginning of the game season.
