Jets, Giants Fans Cry Foul At New Season Ticket Fees
Die hard Jets fan Steve Kern is blowing the whistle at a new plan by the New York Giants and Jets.
The plan, Kern says, would charge season ticket holders an additional fee for the right to maintain their current seating position in the new Meadowlands stadium.
Kern has organized a rally for Saturday to contest the new policy.
"As a 15-year season ticket holder this is just a stand that I wanted to make with my fellow fans," says Kern.
The fee – called a personal seat license fee or PSL – is usually a one-time charge on top of regular season ticket prices. The Jets have not released their PSL plan, but the Giants, according to their NYG 2010 website, are charging fans $1,000 to $20,000 per seat.
That has Kern crying foul.
"For most average fans, that is well above their financial capability to make payments. Most fans can barely pay the season tickets for themselves," says Kern.
Some Giants fans agree.
"I think it's ridiculous because it's just going to push people away," says Mauricio Jaramillo of Palisades Park.
"It's pretty expensive I think, but if you can afford it God bless you," says die-hard Giants fan Tony Alam.
The Giants declined to comment about the rally, but a Jets spokesman released the following statement;
"Throughout this process, we've encouraged our fans to voice their opinions on the new stadium - whether through surveys or in this case, a rally. Our fans' concerns are being taken into account as we develop our PSL plan."
The rally is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Meadowlands this Saturday and Kern says he's already expecting several hundred fans to come and show their support.
