A wake will be held Monday for the teenager killed when his head struck an overpass on I-95 in New Jersey.
The wake for Daniel Fernandez is set to take place at Kearns Funeral Home on Woodhaven Boulevard.
Police say the 16-year-old boy was riding in a party bus with about 60 other teens on Friday night when he stuck his head out the emergency hatch.
He hit his head when the bus went under the Fletcher Avenue Overpass in Fort Lee and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A vigil was held Saturday night outside St. Francis Prep High School in Fresh Meadows, Queens, where Fernandez was about to start his junior year.
"He was a cool kid. He was funny, he always made people laugh," said Sebastian Day, a student at St. Francis Prep. "He was always happy. You never saw him down. He always knew how to cheer you up."
"He was the kid that everybody gathered around his locker. And just talking with a lot of the kids today, he always made them smile. He always made them laugh," said the Reverend Bill Sweeney, the chaplain at St. Francis Prep. "He was a good student, you know. He was a great kid."
According to published reports, a security guard on the bus said it had gotten very hot inside but that he warned the teens to leave the hatch alone.
Designer Limousines, which operates the bus, says it is conducting its own internal investigation.
