New York State is the winner over New Jersey when it comes to the gambling business.

According to the North American Gaming Almanac, New York generated $1 billion more in gambling revenue than New Jersey in 2010.

That puts the state in third place behind Nevada and California.

New Jersey dropped to fourth.

Researchers say the number of gamblers heading to Atlantic City to try their luck has gone down in recent years.

New York's lottery, Native American-run casinos, and slot parlors made $5.4 billion in 2010.

The figure does not include the Resorts World racino at Aqueduct, which opened last October.
