Whitney Houston was buried today next to her father in Westfield, N.J., a day after her family and some famous friends gathered at her Newark funeral.

Fans gathered along the route to the pop star's gravesite at Fairview Cemetery, as the police-escorted hearse carried her casket to the cemetery.

Houston was remembered on Saturday at the New Hope Baptist Church, where she got her start singing with the choir as a child.

Mourners included singers Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys, who paid musical tributes to Houston.

Kevin Costner, Houston's co-star in the 1992 hit movie "The Bodyguard," was also on hand, speaking about Houston's fears even after she became a big star.

Houston's ex-husband Bobby Brown appeared upset after leaving the funeral.

He arrived as the service began, touched the casket, then walked to the back of the church.

Brown said he and his children were seated, but asked repeatedly to move, and he left because he did not want to create a scene.

His rocky 15-year marriage to Houston ended in 2007.

Houston's godmother, singer Aretha Franklin, was expected to sing at the service, but she was too ill. She says she was up most of the night with leg spasms.

Houston's funeral was invitation-only, but that did not stop fans from gathering near the church to remember the pop star.

Many left balloons, flowers and notes before the street was closed off, while others sang some of Houston's songs.

Houston died last Saturday in Beverly Hills at the age of 48. The cause of her death is still under investigation
