Residual Delays After LIRR Train Derails In Queens

A train derailment continues to cause service disruptions for some Long Island Rail Road riders.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says it began when a non-passenger train derailed west of the Forest Hills station Monday night.
No one was injured, but the MTA says 20 rush hour trains were canceled Tuesday morning, diverted to Brooklyn or terminated at Jamaica.
"Today it's been delayed approximately two hours. So I traveled into Hicksville. From Hicksville, I walked to the train station, and from there it's been 45 minute delays, at least," said one LIRR commuter.
"Fares were just raised, and it doesn't really reflect the service. So I feel like sort of cheated a bit," noted another LIRR commuter.
The MTA says crews are working around-the-clock to repair a 0.75-mile track on one of the four main LIRR tracks between Penn Station and Jamaica.
As a result, the agency says morning and evening peak train service delays can be expected through Friday, as a certain number of trains will be canceled or diverted.
Customers should leave extra travel time for delays.
