The Straphangers Campaign says conditions on most subway station platforms have improved since 2011.

In a survey done last summer, a team of observers reported that most stations had garbage cans, and fewer of them were overflowing compared to 2011.

Substantial graffiti was up seven percent from the previous year, and substantial water damage was up 25 percent.

The number of rats spotted was down slightly, but riders still have a 10 percent chance of seeing one while waiting for a train.

The survey was done before Hurricane Sandy.
