The U.S. Department of Transportation is releasing $2 billion in emergency funds for transit systems affected by Hurricane Sandy.
It's the first installment of nearly $11 billion to restore and protect the area's transportation systems damaged by the storm.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says the money will aid in repairs to seriously damaged transit systems and facilities in New York and New Jersey.
The Port Authority says the PATH rail system took about $700 million in damage.
