Nearly a dozen city transit workers were recognized Tuesday for going beyond the call of duty.

NY1's Pat Kiernan led the celebration as the Daily News saluted 11 transit workers at the Hometown Heroes in Transit Awards ceremony on the Upper East Side.

The workers were recognized for their extra efforts and, in many cases, even saving lives.

The honorees included bus driver Steve St. Bernard, who was coming home from work and saw a child in danger of falling.

He then caught her as she fell three stories.

"If I reflect on what happened last year with the little girl, it's like it's still hitting me. I'm still feeling it catching the little girl," St. Bernard said.

The awards were held in partnership with the MTA and the Transport Workers Union Local 100.
