The flashing blue lights used for the city's Select Bus Service are being discontinued.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said it's making the change in response to concerns over confusion between the buses and volunteer emergency vehicles.

The blue lights served to alert riders to the arrival of SBS buses, but state law gives volunteer emergency vehicles the right to use blue lights.

The MTA said it's in the process of finding a suitable replacement for the SBS blue light system.
