NY1 has learned that New York City Transit is going to ask the MTA board next week for approval to install new electronic intercoms at the city's 102 busiest subway stations.
The MTA tested the intercoms, called Help Points, at two stations and says they give riders instant access to help.
They’re pegging the cost at $100 million, which includes a new computer network.
The installation is expected to help replace the MetroCard with a tap and go card because both would use this new network, as well as the Customer Assistance Intercoms.
The Help Points will feature a bright blue light to aid first responders and two buttons, one green for the station booth and one red for emergencies.
