Prisoner's Foiled Escape Briefly Shuts Down Subway Lines

The 1, 2 and 3 subway lines in Lower Manhattan were briefly shut down Friday night as police chased down an escaped male prisoner who fled on subway tracks.
Investigators say the 19-year-old was arrested for selling pot in Union Square but managed to escape the van in the West Village.
He ran into the Christopher Street-Sheridan Square station and service on the 1, 2, and 3 lines was temporarily suspended between Chambers Street and 42nd Street while police searched for him.
Police say they caught up to the suspect on 22nd Street and Lexington Avenue.
It's still unclear how he got out of the police van.
Straphangers say they were ordered to leave after seeing a growing police presence on the scene.
The 1, 2 and 3 trains resumed service by 8:15 p.m. Friday.
