A Brooklyn man who says he was attacked and sodomized by police announced a $220 million civil suit Thursday against the NYPD.
Michael Mineo claims he was beaten and sodomized by several officers inside the Prospect Park subway station in October.
Police say the officers chased him because they suspected he was smoking marijuana and gave him a disorderly conduct ticket, which was later deemed invalid.
Mineo's suit seeks $220 million in damages. He says he has not been able to hold a steady job since the incident because it is painful to sit down and stand up.
"I basically relive this moment like everyday," Mineo said. "Then seeing you guys, I don't even want to be here right now. It's just, it's tough on me. I have to deal with this everyday."
Officer Richard Kern has pleaded not guilty to charges that he sodomized Mineo with his police baton. Officers Alex Cruz and Andrew Morales have pleaded not guilty to hindering prosecution and official misconduct.
Mineo's lawyers say the trial for the three is expected to get underway in September.
NY1 has reached out to the city's Law Department for comment. On Wednesday, the department said it would review the legal paper thoroughly when it received them.
