Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik has been indicted on charges of making false statements to the White House.
The indictment was handed down yesterday.
Kerik is accused of denying he had financial dealings with contractors looking to do business in the city. Prosecutors say those contractors spent more than $255,000 renovating Kerik's apartment in the Bronx.
Kerik's lawyer says the accusations are unfounded.
The charges came up while he was vetted by the White House for Homeland Security secretary.
Kerik later took himself out of the running for the job.
He will face trials in both New York and Washington.
