The cash-strapped Metropolitan Transportation Authority is looking for some relief from personal injury lawsuits that cost the agency millions of dollars every year.

The MTA spends $30-$60 million a year on lawsuit payouts.

Transit officials want the Legislature to ban suits from people who get themselves into dangerous situations. The MTA paid out $2.3 million earlier this year to a Brooklyn man whose blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit when he fell on the tracks and was hit by a train.

Nearly 3,000 claims are filed against the MTA each year.
